What types of connections are you using (inbound & outbound) ?
Typically connection information is just configuration in MII and the runtime objects just ref the alias. I would just manually change the config back and forth as needed or on a set schedule. I have seen this done quite often in similar situations.
If you want to get into something more dynamic based on a users profile or some other settings you would have to do development. If being able to do this isn't really part of your business requirements its probably not worth implementing the functionality.
