MII Security concerns with PLC connection via PCo

Hi Experts,

We have set up the connection in MII to get the PLC data from Shop floor via.

MII <-- PCo <-- OPC Server <-- PLC

The tags values from PLC are being read successfully in MII.

Since we are connecting to the PLC there are some security concerns from shop floor people.

In our scenario PCo and OPC Server(Kepware) are installed on one machine which has two NIC (Network Card).

The first NIC is connected to the PLC LAN (to fetch the PLC data) and the other NIC is connected to the office LAN (to send the data to MII).

The main security concern here is that MII/PCo should not send any unwanted signal (unintentionally through bugs or intentionally through any virus attack) to the PLC otherwise the whole running plant might get stopped !!

We have convinced them that we are only reading the tags from PLC and not writing anything back. This way we will not disturb the PLC readings.

What are the other security measures that we should take so as to allay their fears?

Is there any best practice guide or standard security procedures to apply in such a scenario?

Regards,

Firoz.
